Along the green slopes of Haleakala are the small towns of Upcountry Maui. This rural setting is ideal for those that want something different - cattle ranches, fields of flowers, cowboys on horseback and cool mountain slopes. The backdrop to it all - magnificent Haleakala ("House of the Sun"). This 10,023 foot volcano is not extinct, but only dormant, with it's last eruption being less than 200 years ago. Much of the land upcountry is ranchland. Cattle, sheep and horses graze the huge tracts of Haleakala, Ulupalakua and Kaupo ranches. |
