Twenty years ago, the six mile Kihei coastline was little more than a scrubby "Kiawe" jungle at the foot of Mt. Haleakala. Today, this friendly beach community is Maui's fastest growing resort area, boasting plenty of condominium accommodation, some private rental houses, and an abundance of shops, restaurants and activities. The weather along this coast is as good as it gets - warm and sunny almost all the time. Kihei receives less than ten inches of rainfall in an average year. Kihei's coastline is scalloped with great beaches, and swimming conditions are good year round (the best beaches are at the north or south end of Kihei).
